Domestic violence injunctions

This legal guide will give you information about the protective orders available to you through the criminal courts and Family Court.

*Update*

As of 27 November 2024, a new type of protective order called Domestic Abuse Protection Order (DAPO) is being piloted in certain areas. A pilot is like a test or trial to try something new.

DAPOs are only available if the person you need protection from lives in a piloting area.  The piloting areas are:

  • London boroughs of Croydon, Sutton, and Bromley
  • Greater Manchester
  • The British Transport Police are also able to apply for a DAPO

You can find further information on DAPOs on the GOV.UK website: victims www.gov.uk/guidance/domestic-abuse-protection-notices-dapns-and-domestic-abuse-protection-orders-dapos

If you are not able to apply for a DAPO, or you want to find out more about your other options, you can download the guide at the top of this page.
