Griffiths v Tickle [2021] EWCA Civ 1882 – The Legal Arguments
Improving transparency in the family court is crucial to ending violence against women.
In December 2021, the Court of Appeal handed down judgment in Griffiths v Tickle [2021] EWCA Civ 1882 permitting the publication of a fact-finding judgment in which a family court judge had made findings against an ex-MP that he had perpetrated domestic and sexual abuse against his ex-wife, Kate Griffiths MP. The judgment is a good example of how the family court should approach allegations of coercive control and sexual violence.
Rights of Women intervened in the application for publication of the fact-finding judgment, seeking to highlight the rights of victims of abuse to tell their story and ensure these rights are given the proper consideration they deserve.
The Court gave permission for the skeleton arguments to be published. They can be found on Tortoise by following this link.
