A two-hour session covering the basics of fact-finding hearings in domestic abuse cases, including:

  • What fact-finding hearings are
  • Preparing for hearings
  • What happens at a fact-finding hearing
  • Possible outcomes and their significance for the rest of the case

This training will introduce participants to rules on proof and evidence. This is crucial to understand the conflicting approaches and language of specialist services and the courts when responding to disclosures of domestic abuse.

The training will include practical exercises and tips in preparing for hearings.

 

 

Who Can Attend / Eligibility Criteria

This session is open to non-legal professionals working in London boroughs on violence against women and girls issues from the community, voluntary and statutory sectors including refuge workers, IDVAs, ISVAs, social workers, housing officers, police officers, education professionals and health professionals. It is also open to Commissioners and Local Authority Officers responsible for commissioning violence against women services.

Please note: 

  • Submitting your application does not guarantee a place on the course. We will review all applications to confirm eligibility and let you know if your place has been confirmed.
  • Places are limited, and once we reach capacity, we will operate a waiting list.
  • Only organisations based in London can apply.
  • To ensure fairness, we limit places per organisation.
  • If you have previously attended, please do not register again and allow others a chance to attend.
