Domestic Abuse Act 2021 – Offences involving violent or abusive behaviour
The third session in our series on the DA Act will help professionals understand the new offences and amendments to existing legislation introduced by Part 6 of the Act.
This session will help professionals understand the new offences and amendments to existing legislation relating to criminal offences introduced by Part 6 of the Act. This includes:
• Controlling or coercive behaviour;
• Threats to disclose private images;
• Strangulation or suffocation;
• Consent to serious harm for sexual gratification not a defence to certain crimes;
• Extra-territorial jurisdiction.
It will also touch upon criminal justice system-related provisions in Part 7 of the Act.

Who should attend?
It is open to all professionals working in London boroughs on violence against women and girls (VAWG) issues from the community, voluntary and statutory sectors including refuge workers, IDVAs, ISVAs, social workers, housing officers, police officers, education professionals and health professionals. It is also open to Commissioners and Local Authority Officers responsible for commissioning violence against women services.
