Family Court: IDVA/ISVA attendance & keeping refuge addresses confidential

This training focuses on the interaction between domestic abuse services and the Family Court.

 

The first part of the session will look at the rules on supporting survivors of domestic abuse at Family Court hearings including:

·         rules on the attendance of IDVAs and ISVAs at hearings which came into force in April 2023

·         the right to reasonable assistance by an IDVA/ISVA

·         what IDVAs and ISVAs may and may not do

·         the role of McKenzie Friends and rules on what they may and may not do

The second part of the session will explain recent guidance provided by the High Court on how court documents should be given to survivors residing in refuges. Understanding the guidance will help professionals ensure that survivors can be given court documents without risking the confidentiality of the refuge address and the safety of survivors living in refuges.

 Who should attend? It is open to all professionals working in the following London boroughs on violence against women and girls issues from the community, voluntary and statutory sectors including refuge workers, IDVAs, ISVAs, social workers, housing officers, police officers, education professionals and health professionals. It is also open to Commissioners and Local Authority Officers responsible for commissioning violence against women services
